Description We suspect this seat dates to the early 20th Century, probably in the 1915 range as the hinge was originally polished Nickel, and that finish wasn’t used mush after 1926. The quartersawn oak was popular right around 1910, so we feel that it’s from that range. The seat’s been refinished to as close as we could get to the original color. There are two spots of repair on the lid, both have been glued and biscuit joined. There are spots of fill on the bottom of the seat, this is where steel pins were used to hold the glue joints together, and this is how the factory did it. One can also see the “ghost” outlines of the original seat bumpers, see photos in the gallery. This seat measure 14 3/4″ wide by 17 1/4″ from front to centerline of hinge mounting post. Seat hinge is the “normal” 5 1/2″ wide. One only!
