Description This is downright cool! Several years ago, a client contacted us regarding parts for her Crane Drexel sink. It was giving her issues, and her plumbers were really struggling with it. We supplied some parts (including a new handle), but the leaks simply increased. She really wanted to keep the sink but eventually was ready to give up on it. Then, she noticed one of our fully restored Drexel sinks on our website. She offered the old sink in trade-in, and we agreed to drop the restored Drexel off and pick up the old sinks. Here’s where things get interesting. Upon arrival, our driver and shop artiste Jim noticed a display of Alan Shepard memorabilia and inquired about it. Our client stated that her home was purchased from the estate of Alan Shepard, and this is where he had lived until his passing in 1998. We had no idea the sinks we were picking up were owned by Admiral Alan Shepard, the first American to enter Space, and the only one to smack a golf ball on the moon. When Jim returned from the trip, we got together and decided to not restore this sink, but to just rebuild it and leave the trim original. We disassembled it, and now we know why our clients’ plumbers were struggling with this sink. We’re pretty convinced that whatever sealant was used to seal these valves came from NASA. Normally, we can disassemble one of these in an hour or so. This sink, 5 hours and an acetylene torch were needed. It put up a fight, but it was worth it. New parts on the sink are the following. All rubber seals Hot/cold cartridges Chrome cap on trip waste Cold handle was replaced approximately 10 years ago Everything else is original to the sink, tested watertight. Sink measures 22″ wide by 18″ front to back. There is one grain of sand sized chip on the right top, see photo in the gallery. Your choice of Tailpiece size, either 1 1/2″ or 1 1/4″.
